Controlled Drugs (CDs)
Some medication is classified as a Controlled Drug (CD). This includes medicines such as strong painkillers, for example, morphine tablets and capsules, tramadol capsules and painkiller patches including fentanyl and buprenorphine. Gabapentin and pregabalin are also controlled drugs. Doctors are only allowed to prescribe 28 days of CD medication at a time. There are very good reasons for restricting how many days’ supply we can provide.
These prescriptions previously had to be signed by a doctor but the law has just changed. Prescription for these drugs can now be sent electronically to the pharmacy, which is more convenient for everyone.
