For the last 13 years, one of our patients and his team of volunteers have run a volunteer driver service to help patients who struggle to get to the Surgery. This very successful facility shows how patients and practices can work together to improve services and we are so grateful to Mark and his team for the work they do helping their fellow patients!
What is the volunteer driver service? The service is run by our patients, for our patients. It operates every Wednesday morning between 10am and 11am. We have two doctors and two nurses on duty each Wednesday morning, so it gives patients using the service a great choice of who they would like to see.
Is there a charge? The service is completely free.
How does it work? A patient rings the surgery to book an appointment for between 10am and 11am on a Wednesday, and asks the receptionist if they can also book the volunteer driver. The driver will call the patient to confirm the time they will be collected. The patient will then be picked up from their home and delivered to the surgery in time for their appointment. There may be more than one patient on each journey so it is a great way to meet new people! Once all the passengers have had their appointment, they will be taken home.
What do I need to do to use the service? Please speak to the receptionist in person or call on 01926 810939
How do I become a volunteer driver? The group is always looking for volunteer drivers. It involves giving up your time approximately one Wednesday morning per month. Please call us or use the Contact Us tab above to send us a message for more information. The Chair of the Drivers Group, Mark, will be in touch
