OUT OF AREA PATIENTS (GP CHOICE)
WE ARE NOW ABLE TO ACCEPT OUT OF AREA PATIENTS ONCE MORE
If you would like to register as an ‘Out of Area’ patient, please read the FAQs below and then submit the form to Join Us
Do you register Patients from outside your catchment area?
New rules mean that we can now register patients who do not live within our practice area.
Not all patients will be suitable for this type of registration. St Wulfstan Surgery will only register you as an Out of Area Patient if it is clinically appropriate and practical in your individual case.
If you live outside our practice boundary (or are about to move outside it), and the doctor thinks it is appropriate, we will be able to register you as a permanent patient but we will NOT be able to visit you at home.
Can anyone register as an Out of Area patient?
We may decide that it is not in your best interests or practical, for you to be registered in this way. This is usually because you may have care needs that would be better met through registration with a practice near to where you live.
To help us assess whether Out of Area registration is suitable for you, we may:-
- ask you, or the practice you are currently registered with, questions about your health
- ask you questions about whether it is practical for you to attend the surgery
If we accept you onto our list and then your health needs change, we may review your registration to see if it would be more appropriate for you to be registered with a GP practice closer to your home.
What happens if I’m not well enough to come to the surgery?
You will have access to all the services we provide to patients in our area, however, we will not be able to provide you with home visits.
If you are too ill to attend the practice in person, or the practice is unable to help you over the phone, call NHS 111. The NHS 111 service will be able to tell you about access to local services or, where necessary, arrange a home visit.
If your health deteriorates and you develop a longer-term need for care in your home we would probably advise you to register with a GP closer to your home.

Our GPs will then review your forms to see whether you are suitable for this type of registration. You will be contacted by one of our team to let you know if we are unable to accept you as an Out of Area patient. If you don't hear from us, you can assume that the process has been successful.
